Brow LiftThis procedure is also well known as a Forehead Lift. The effects of gravity and aging commonly affect drooping eyebrows, forehead furrows and frown lines A cosmetic brow lift aims to smooth out forehead lines and furrows, to raise the eyebrows and upper lids and to soften or flatten deep frown lines between your eyes. The effects of the surgery last seven to ten years, or longer. The result can be a more alert, more animated, more youthful appearance. Most men and women having a brow lift will be between ages forty-five and sixty. A brow lift is usually done on an outpatient basis in a private hospital operating room. Anesthesia for this procedure is done with intravenous sedation and local anesthetic administration. This technique is referred to as "twilight sleep". You'll be awake but relaxed, and your face will be insensitive to pain. Brow Lift surgery take one and a half to two hours to do. Unless your hair is very short, it will be tied up in rubber bands in front of and behind the surgical area to keep it out of the way. Your head will not have to be shaved. The incision is usually made in the hairline so that hair will eventually cover the surgical scar. For most patients, the incision will start at about the level of the ears and run across the top of the forehead. The forehead skin and muscle is raised and tightened, at the same time, the muscles responsible for the deep vertical skin furrows can be cut. This usually results in smoothing of the central forehead. Both vertical and horizontal forehead lines are usually improved After the operation, the patient spends about an hour or two in the recovery room. From there it is best to proceed directly to the recovery retreat, to go to bed and rest. One may experience some numbness and temporary discomfort around the incision, which can be controlled with medication. Swelling and bruising are expected after a brow lift. Occasionally the eyes may be swollen shut for a period of time. Bruising may be quite extensive and you have to keep your head elevated for two to three days following surgery to keep the swelling down. Bruising always moves downward due to gravity. You will be allowed to shower and brush your hair the day your bandage is removed, or the day after. You can gently brush or comb your hair and blow-dry it with cool air. It is best to avoid sun exposure on any surgical wound for at least six weeks. All stitches will be taken out by eight to ten days after the operation. You may go back to work between day eight and eleven. After three weeks, you may resume all sporting activities. Most visible signs of surgery should fade completely within two to three weeks. Complications are rare. Infection, bleeding, and damage to important structures such as nerves in the operating area may occur. The risk of complications can be reduced by closely following the surgeon's instructions both before and after surgery.
